Something’s rotten in Georgia

By BRUCE LOWITT

Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis filed a motion Monday to have Judge Scott McAfee removed from her prosecution of former President Donald Trump for “failing to explain his comment about me and Nathan Wade.”

Willis’ ethics were repeatedly questioned during a hearing regarding her relationship with Wade, who resigned Friday as special prosecutor in the case. McAfee said Willis could continue as lead prosecutor but wrote that “an odor of mendacity remains.”

Willis explained in her filing Monday that “About a month ago, Nathan gave me a bottle of Mendacity Eau De Parfum by Chanel and I guess I overdid it before I began my testimony. When Judge McAfee asked what that odor was, I told him and that the 100-milliliter spray bottle of it went for about $97, which I reimbursed Nathan for in cash, of course. I saw Judge McAfee write down what I told him but I think he mistakenly included it in his notes about my, um, liaison with Nathan.”

McAfee’s statement about an “odor of mendacity” during Willis’ hearing regarding her relationship with Wade sent Trump and his defenders into frenzy, calling for her removal and disbarment.

“I knew something about her stinks,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, “and now I know it was HER CRAPPY TOILET WATER, AND I DO MEAN TOILET. If she’d instead bought some of my excellent Trump 47 Victory perfume, a bargain at only $99 for a 100-milliliter bottle (click here to purchase!), I’d probably be in jail by now. And by the way, what the hell is a milliliter?”

On Fox New Sunday, host and lawyer Shannon Noelle Bream was excoriating McAfee for not jailing Willis and canceling the trial when her guest, attorney Jonathan Turley, fainted.

I was suddenly overwhelmed by, I don’t know, rotten food smells or backed-up sewer fumes or something,” Turley said after regaining consciousness. “Shannon apologized later for wearing Eau De Melania on the set.”

Willis said at a news conference her “relationship with Mr. Wade has been blown totally … wait a minute. Bad choice of words. I think everyone has overreacted to our relationship. And if you think it’s going to continue, let me assure you it’s not. I’ll testify, under oath, that Nathan’s a lousy lay.”

Willis also said she will no longer wear Mendacity during the trial. “I’ll be going back to what I used to wear – Deception by Giorgio Armani.”
