Trump: Running on empty

By BRUCE LOWITT

The Georgia judge overseeing the trial of Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election, rejecting the defense argument that conducting the trial while Trump is campaigning for re-election in 2024 would constitute election interference, asked the former president, “Who the hell said you should run in the first place – and in the second place, too?”

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee acknowledged that, as Trump defense attorney Steven Sadow said, if Trump were to win back the presidency, he likely couldn’t be tried until he was out of office in 2029.

“Putting it off until then makes no sense,” McAfee said, “because he and probably half the co-defendants who masterminded the plot to destroy the Constitution and set up an autocracy will either be dead or so old they won’t be able to contribute to their defense – assuming our justice system even survives another Trump presidency .”

District Attorney Fani Willis has asked that Trump and his 14 co-defendants be tried together beginning Aug. 5. But when prosecutors said it would take four months to present their case, likely during the final months of the campaign, Willis overruled her office, saying, “No freaking way. Haven’t you seen the evidence? Once (Rudy) Giuliani spills his guts – not to mention his hair dye – all over the place, and once (Mark) Meadows begs to turn state’s evidence to avoid becoming somebody’s bitch in prison, this whole show will be over in a couple of weeks.”

Meanwhile, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, overseeing Trump’s election subversion case in Washington, D.C., ruled that, despite his claims he had nothing to do with the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol, “not only does he not have a ‘get-out-of-jail-free’ card of immunity from prosecution, I’d say the former president is fucked six ways from Sunday.”

  1. Well-done.

On a serious note,* nobody seems to have noted that WE, THE EFFING AMERICAN PEOPLE, have a right to know whether one of the primary candidates for president is a crook, a thief, etc., etc., etc., BEFORE we vote in November.

Trying him before the election makes a lot of sense for the benefit of everyone — except Donald.

  2. Let’s hope it’s the “Once and ALWAYS former White House inhabitant.” He shouldn’t be allowed to take a public tour, if they’re ever offered again.

  3. He can make a whole new set of friends wherever he goes. Wait, he had no friends now, just sycophants or do I mean follow sociopaths/psychopaths.
