DeSantis: lowering higher education

By BRUCE LOWITT

U.S. News & World Report, which on May 3 listed the state of Florida No. 1 in the nation for higher education, has withdrawn that ranking due to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ academic policies which the publication called “dumber than a barrel of bricks.”

Kim Castro, editor and chief content officer of USN&WR, wrote that an analysis of DeSantis’ policy mandates “in his pursuit of the American presidency indicates that he is proposing the lowest common denominator to appeal to the largest possible number of bigots and morons.”

DeSantis’ ‘Stop WOKE Act’ passed last year by his obsequious alt-right legislature, is the reason we dropped Florida’s higher-education ranking to 50th,” Castro said, “just behind Mississippi and West Virginia and, if you ask me, just a point or two ahead of my mother’s favorite, ‘Ding Dong School’ on TV in the 1950s.”

Woke, originally employed by Black Americans a century ago to refer to an awareness of racial and social injustice, has been co-opted by the right wing to attack anything progressive, including gay rights, transgender people, pride parades, critical race theory, voting rights, unisex bathrooms, abortion and reproductive rights, stylish fashions, chorus-line dancers, drag queen shows, Hervey Fierstein, Megan Rapinoe, Nathan Lane, Kate McKinnon and Snagglepuss.

DeSantis is unapologetic in explaining his educational philosophy.

When I demanded the elimination of AP African American Studies developed by the College Board,” he said, “it wasn’t just because it’s an example of a political agenda of woke indoctrination. It’s because either you’re African or American. What’s to study about it? Pick one and stick with it. If you think you have to study yourself to figure out what you are, just go ask your mommy. Boom. Done.

Same thing with LBQ-… LTBG-… LBJ-… LSMFT-… LMAO-… whatever the hell those letters are,” DeSantis snarled. “If you don’t know what you are, get undressed and stand in front of a mirror. If you have a … um … uh … a pee-pee or a … uh … a hoo-hah, you see what you are and there’s no reason to talk about it in class. That’s just disgusting. And like I said before, if you still don’t know, ask your mommy.”

According to a survey in May of 10,843 high school seniors by the National Intelligent Report, 93 percent are ignoring Florida colleges and universities when filling out applications. Of those 10,084 rejecting Florida, 17 percent said they didn’t know where the state is, 23 percent said “it looks like a penis” and the remaining 60 percent said “their governor is a dick.”

And in an accompanying survey of 7,285 freshmen at Florida colleges and universities, 87 percent have filed applications to transfer to out-of-state schools with 86 percent saying “our governor is a dick” and one percent saying “our governor is a putz.”

  1. I am convinced that Mr Lowitt is correct but perhaps he should give the Florida governor some more credit. After all look at how far he has come with double digit IQ points

    1. Mr. Lowitt didn’t attend a Florida university or college (or elementary school or high school). He attended Long Island University in Brooklyn, N.Y., which may account for his IQ.
